UPDATE: Crusaders win 5A girls regionals, get set for Hoopla

The Carlton Crusaders senior girls basketball team have officially punched their ticket to the provincial championship tournament, March 21-23 in Saskatoon.

The Crusaders were able to secure their spot in this year’s tournament after claiming a victory over their local rivals from École St. Mary 78-51 in the semi finals, before defeating the Swift Current Ardens 75-53 in the finals.

Crusaders coach Jennifer Ferguson is the Crusaders can return to the big dance, after getting a bronze medal last year. They also have a young team this year, seeing as they only two graduating players.

“Whatever happens there [provincials] is icing on the cake,” she said.

On the 5A Boys side in Yorkton, the Crusaders fell in the semifinals to the Lloydminster Barons 94-84 and are eliminated from Hoopla contention. Lloydminster and Estevan will play for the top seed at the 5A Boys Rural Regionals.
