Sharks Bring Home Provincial Hardware

Results from the weekend’s provincial championship have the head coach for the Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club beaming.

“There were fabulous results from the Sharks swimmers in the junior Provincial Championship last weekend,” said head coach Hazem Hussein. “Prince Albert Sharks swim club went to the Junior and A Provincial Championship with a lot of ambitions and returned back with a lot of success! The swimmers achieved 27 medals from every colour.”

Here are highlights of the event:

Liam Murphy won seven gold medals, two bronze and earned five AA times.

Luthar Wiberg won two gold, two silver and four bronze. Soren Hansen won one gold, three silver, one bronze and earned five A times.

Camryn Cooling won one gold and one silver. Mackenzie Emery won one bronze. Ava Helgason won one gold and one bronze.

Dani Boisson achieved A times in the 100-metre and 400-metre freestyle and in the 200-metre breaststroke events.

Natasha Coertze achieved an A time in the 50-metre backstroke.

Clara Gelhorn achieved an A time in the 200-metre freestyle event.

Mackenzie Naytowhow earned A times in 100-, 200- and 400-metre freestyle events for 11 year olds and A times for 11 and 12 year olds in the 50-, 100- and 200-metre backstroke events.

The Sharks placed first in the 12-13 years old age category for the 400-metre freestyle relay. The relay team consisted of Luthar Wiberg, Camryn Cooling, Ava Helgason and Liam Murphy.

The same swimmers also came second in the mixed 12-13 400-metre medley.

“All of the swimmers have worked hard in training in the build-up to this year’s competition,” said Hussein. “The results they have achieved are down to their dedication and hard work. We are pleased with our swimmers’ results and performance.”

The Saskatchewan Short Course Provincial Junior and A Cup was held in Moose Jaw March 8-10 and featured 12 swim clubs from across Saskatchewan.

The Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club offers a variety of programs to meet youths’ potentials and ambitions both at the competitive and non-competitive level.
