Above zero temperatures to take over P.A

Mar 11, 2019 | 11:57 AM

It’s been 67 days since Prince Albert registered a temperature above 0 C.

That should come to an end very shortly according to Terri Lang, meteorologist with Environment Canada.

“The jet stream has finally shifted and the polar vortex that has been giving us the really cold temperatures has retreated back to the arctic,” Lang said. “It’s looking like we’ll stay well into the milder side, well into the future.”

Lang said we have to go back to Jan. 3, 2019 to find a positive temperature.

“It got to 5 C,” Lang informed paNOW. “So it’s been a very, very long cold stretch for Prince Albert,” Lang said.

Lang imparted more good news. The mild weather is expected to last well into forecast and may get even warmer.

“Looks like even next week we could get into some really, really warm temperatures. So we can keep our fingers crossed for that,” She said.

Lang did stress that warm temperatures may melt snow and ice during the day, but temperatures are still well below freezing in the evening, creating perfect conditions for black ice to form, and cause drivers havoc on the road.
