Victim’s sons tell court that killing of ailing mother was no act of compassion
MONTREAL — Following emotional testimony from the victim’s family members, the Crown and the defence offered vastly different sentencing recommendations Friday for a Montreal man convicted of suffocating his ailing wife.
The Crown argued Michel Cadotte should be sentenced to eight years in prison due to the vulnerability of the victim and the violent nature of her death.
“All of society needs to know you can’t cause the death of others, even when you’re experiencing a great suffering, even when you’re exhausted,” prosecutor Genevieve Langlois told a Montreal courtroom.
