Spencer steals the show in Saskatoon; Mintos take 2-1 series lead over Blazers
The Prince Albert Mintos needed a bigtime goaltending effort to beat the Saskatoon Blazers on Friday at the Rod Hamm Memorial Arena, and they got exactly that from Spencer Welke.
Welke stopped 49 out of 50 shots as the Mintos beat the Blazers 6-1, to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League opening round playoff series.
Welke got a ton of offensive support from his team, as six different Mintos scored goals in front of him. Blake Duquette and Dawson Springer each had a goal and an assist, while Andrew Urbaniak, Alex Ozar, Gabe Klassen and Cohner Saleski also lit the lamp. Ethan Ironside had a pair of assists.
