Sherry Anderson and her rink have captured their fourth straight senior women’s provincial championship.

Anderson and her rink added their most recent crown after five days of competition in Rosetown. Speaking to paNOW, Anderson said her rink had to overcome difficult challenges to claim their most recent title.

“The ice was fairly challenging and the fact that it was very straight and actually fell in spots, so it was hard to play the type of game we normally play,” she said.

The Anderson rink finished the round robin with a 5-2 record. The games where Anderson lost were close, one of the losses was to Syrota rink, who the Anderson rink met in the finals. In the other game they lost Anderson and her rink played well in the first six ends, before fading down the stretch.

“We gave up a loss in a game we did control for the part,” she said.

Anderson and her rink, which includes lead Anita Silvernagle, second Brenda Goertzen and third Patricia Hersikorn have been curling together for four years. In those four years they have enjoyed much success, going all the way to the world championships. Anderson explained the success of the rink is a result of a number of factors.

“I think we’re all on the same page as far as our goals, our work ethic and being in shape for the event and practicing and working to try and get better,” she said.

Next, Anderson and her rink will be going to the national championships which are set to take place later this month in Chilliwack B.C, where they are looking forward to the opportunity to defend their crown.

“I actually think we’re getting better all the time,” said Anderson.

The Saskatchewan skip credits the improvement to team work and the work they have been doing with people from Curling Sask.

After the national championship, Anderson and her rink will not be done curling for the season as they are set to head to Norway to defend their world championship.

“We’ll have targets on our back I am sure in both events because of that, but that’s always a good challenge as well,” she said.
