Team Saskatchewan is tied for first at the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts after a pair of victories Thursday.

The first came over Northern Ontario, who proved no match for Robyn Silvernagle in the afternoon draw.

The North Battleford-based rink opened the scoring and took a wide 5-2 lead by the fifth end en route to an 11-5 win. A triple in the seventh and ninth ends lead to handshakes from Krista McCarville’s rink.

The victory left Saskatchewan with a 6-2 record, good enough for second in the championship pool, bested only by Team Alberta.

In the late spot, the foursome faced Team British Columbia, who earned their way into the championship pool by way of an 8-5 morning tiebreaker win against Manitoba’s Tracy Fleury.

Though Silvernagle found goose eggs on the scoreboard through the opening two ends as the Abbotsford-based rink picked-up singles, they strung together points in the following three frames.

A triple in the sixth pulled B.C. ahead, but Silvernagle answered back in the eighth and entered the final end up 7-6 with the hammer. A hit and a stick cleared the house and tallied the final point to win.

Team Saskatchewan faces Chelsea Carey’s Team Alberta (7-2) at 12:30 p.m. Friday and Ontario (7-2) in the late draw at 5:30 p.m. in Sydney, N.S.
