Ontario, NB, Saskatchewan premiers travel to Washington for trade discussions

TORONTO — Ontario Premier Doug Ford heads to Washington, D.C., today to attend a National Governors Association meeting, along with the premiers of New Brunswick and Saskatchewan.

Ford’s office says that while in Washington, Ford will connect with key trade partners, including his governor counterparts.

In a statement, Ford says the Ontario-U.S. partnership is “one of the greatest in the world.”

New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs, as chair of the Council of the Federation, is leading the joint mission of premiers Ford and Scott Moe of Saskatchewan.

Ford will also participate in a series of roundtables with American business leaders and will discuss impacts of the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

Ontario is the top trading partner for 19 states, and two-way merchandise trade between Ontario and the U.S. in 2017 totalled $390 billion.
