Controlled burn

City conducting controlled burn at local landfill

Feb 12, 2019 | 4:05 PM

City crews will conduct a controlled burn at the local landfill this week, and inform residents not to be alarmed if they see smoke in the area.

The burn will start on Wednesday and last about a week. Sanitation Manager Nisar Ghani said the burn will be put out each evening before starting again the next day.

Only clean, salvageable wood will be burned, Ghani said, adding the burn was approved by the Saskatchewan Ministry of the Environment as well.

“This is a clean wood, untreated wood, which does not pose any danger to the environment,” Ghani added.

Ghani said the winter is a good time to conduct a controlled burn as it generally less windy. He said a berm will be set up around the burn and the site will be monitored at all times.

Ghani said the local fire department has been made aware of the burn as well.
