Extreme cold delays P.A. transit system

Feb 7, 2019 | 6:08 PM

The extreme cold just got even more uncomfortable for users of the city’s bus fleet.

This latest dangerously cold snap, which has been accompanied by freezing fog and roads that are even more icy than usual, means Prince Albert’s public transit system is running with some delays.

“Safety comes before schedule” Keri Sapsford, Transportation Manager

Transportation and Traffic Manager Keri Sapsford said safety comes before schedule.

“Anytime it’s this cold out with this much ice it’s definitely slippery conditions and we try to keep things as safe as possible,” she told paNOW. “We are not travelling as fast as we normal do.”

All bus routes are affected and Sapsford said passengers should dress appropriately and be prepared for possible delays at their stop.

“We recommend people get to their stop at their regular time but they may have to wait for a while; make sure you’re warm enough to stay there for a few minutes,” she said.

She figured delays could be up to about five minutes depending on the weather conditions at the time.

On Thursday morning the freezing fog was a major factor in slowing the buses and ice fog patches were again forecast for Friday morning possibly lasting until noon.
