All kinds of Raiders’ milestones achieved in win over Oil Kings

Feb 4, 2019 | 10:32 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders’ 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings felt a little bit sweeter.

They reached three milestones, the biggest one was Sean Montgomery playing his 330th game, which ties the Raiders games played record. Brett Novak was in sole possession of that record from 2006, but now has company with Montgomery.

Montgomery could break the record in his hometown of Calgary on Friday, playing the Hitmen at the Calgary Corral.

Snipin’ Sean Montgomery’s next game will be a big one.

Also on Monday, Dante Hannoun played in his 300th career game. He’s played 14 games for the Raiders, with five goals and 14 points in that span. His previous 286 games were all with the Victoria Royals.

“It flew by really quick. Just coming in as a 16-year-old and hearing all the 20’s talk about cherishing every moment because the five years goes by quick,” Hannoun said. “I’m here now and it does fly by pretty quick. I’m happy I’m here right now and I’m looking forward to this special moment.”

And not to be overshadowed, Max Martin played his 200th career game. All but 10 of those games have been in a Raiders uniform.

Aside from the milestones, the game was made a few grains of sugar sweeter with the fact the Raiders exacted revenge for Friday’s disappointing 6-3 defeat to the Oil Kings at the Art Hauser Centre. And the victory is also against Edmonton, who were 8-1-0-1 in their last ten games before Monday’s meeting.

For the Raiders, it’s their second win in a row, giving them an 8-2-0-1 in their last 11 games and a 43-7-0-2 victory on the season.

Time off for Nacho

Justin Nachbaur served his first game of a three-game suspension Monday, after his part in a fight after the buzzer on Saturday in a 4-3 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors. Nachbaur fought Tristin Langan after the buzzer. Langan, who left the penalty box to get into the fight, received one game.

Also missing Monday’s game was Oil Kings forward Jake Neighbours, who received a four-game suspension for a boarding penalty against the Saskatoon Blades.
