Mintos find a way

Feb 2, 2019 | 3:59 PM

Despite trailing Saturday’s game against the Notre Dame Argos for 40 minutes and facing a 5-on-3 power play against them for the last 30 seconds of overtime, the Prince Albert Mintos still found a way.

They outlasted the Argos in a shootout and picked up the full two points with a 4-3 victory.

Andrew Schaab and Dawson Springer both scored in the shootout to give the Mintos their fourth straight win.

The first five goals were scored in the first period, with the Argos taking a 3-2 on Bryce Thomson’s goal with 2:01 remaining in the first period. The Argos held that lead for 40:10, until Mintos forward Gabe Klassen continued his impressive scoring streak.

He scored the crucial game-tying goal with 1:51 left in regulation to force the game into overtime. Klassen now has five goals in his past three games, including a hat trick on Thursday. Due to his recent surge in goals, Klassen has sole possession of first place in goals with 26.

Klassen also scored on Chase Bertholet’s goal. Jake Huska also netted one for the Mintos.

Both the Argos and Mintos will meet for a rematch on Sunday, 1:30 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.
