Social media posts may help investigations: RCMP

A burned out truck found on the side of the highway Friday morning in the Shellbrook area, is now part of an active investigation.

A picture of the truck was first posted to a Facebook buy and sell page. Sgt. Lyle Korczak with the Prince Albert RCMP detachment told paNOW officers encourage people to report these types of incidents to Crime Stoppers but added they don’t mind the information being shared.

“The more details people can obtain, it assists,” he said.

From July 1, 2018 to present, there have been 78 stolen vehicles reported to Prince Albert RCMP from the surrounding rural area and five First Nations communities. Trucks topped the list of the most sought after vehicle (22), followed by cars (21), and vehicles classified as other such as boats and snowmobiles (14). Korczak said he doesn’t make a regular practice of browsing social media sites for stolen vehicles, explaining they normally find out anyway.
