Man arrested for spitting at Art Hauser Centre security personnel

A man is scheduled to face charges of assault in Prince Albert court today after spitting at security guards who tried to evict him at the Raiders game at the Art Hauser Centre Friday.

The 35-year-old man was intoxicated according to the Prince Albert Police Service and was arrested outside.

Custom Security, the company that handles security at the city-owned facility, said the vast majority of fans are respectful and helpful, but with increasing crowds this season there have been the odd unsavoury incidents.

“We’re there for the comfort and safety of everybody,” Chief Administrative Officer Victor Timm told paNOW. “We’re up to 15 or 16 people looking after 3,000 so it’s a difficult job and every game there is something: whether that’s somebody having a few too many to drink, trying to sneak in the back door or parents letting their kids run around unruly.”

However, Timm said the vast majority of the spectators were respectful and helpful.

“A small minority are the trouble-makers as usual, but most people are great to us, they treat us well, listen and talk to us, but there are a few you just figure shouldn’t be there,” he said.

When it comes to bad behaviour he said the public will point out the culprits and the company has personnel walking and moving around the venue while others are in set positions keeping an eye on the crowd from a vantage point.

He added there is a protocol for dealing with people behaving badly.

“We always ask them to leave first and if they don’t we’ll call the police. Most people when you ask them to leave go without a problem,” Timm said.

In Friday’s incident police found the man hiding in a nearby vehicle.
