Marauders boys all set to host volleyball provincials
In the past quarter century, the St. Mary Marauders volleyball teams have done quite well regarding the provincial title. There’s been almost a 50 per cent chance they’ll come back with one title in that time.
Now this year, both the Marauders boys and girls have qualified for provincials. St. Mary will host the 5A Boys Provincials Friday and Saturday at St. Mary and Saskatchewan Polytechnic. The school’s track record has been good at the tournament and they’re looking forward to the weekend.
“We’ve done really well. Our school has won 11 out of the last 23 provincial titles so we’ve done really well in the past, but in no way can we take that for granted,” Marauders boys head coach Rene Quintal said. “Going into the weekend, everyone has the same record: 0-0. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in the past, it’s what you do this weekend that will make the difference.”
Quintal said the Marauders boys showed well throughout the year. At regionals last week in Warman, the Marauders were undefeated until they got to the finals, before falling to Meadow Lake Carpenter.
