‘Nobody is giving up’: Family of missing Rosthern man

Aug 24, 2018 | 5:00 PM

A Saskatchewan family’s search for answers continues, 10 days after a 77-year-old man’s mysterious disappearance.

Victor Falk was last seen Aug. 14 in Rosthern, at the assisted living home where he was living. Richard Janzen said his father-in-law went out for a walk.

“It was not unusual for him to be out for a walk. It was unusual for him to be out after supper,” he said.

Janzen said Falk has Alzheimer’s disease but never wandered far from his home, and did not have access to a vehicle.

Last weekend RCMP and search and rescue teams from the Prince Albert, Warman, Saskatoon and Rosthern areas scoured the rural areas around Rosthern and Waldheim, but turned up nothing. The teams also used drones to look at areas which would otherwise be difficult to access. While the RCMP has temporarily suspended its physical search, members are still encouraging people in the Rosthern and Waldheim areas to check abandoned buildings or vehicles on their properties. Farmers who are out harvesting, have also been asked to check their fields.

“If you think you have a tip, please call the RCMP immediately, they are still on the case, they will follow up,” Janzen said.

In addition to the search and rescue teams, dozens of volunteers have also been assisting in the search effort. Janzen said the support has been overwhelming for the family.

“Saying ‘thank you’ doesn’t even come close to expressing our deep appreciation for the community,” he said. “People that we know and people that we don’t know who showed up; food that showed at my front door and I don’t even know who dropped it off.”
