Jul 31, 2018 | 2:00 PM

UPDATE: Police have recovered the wayward jacket, according to a brief statement from the Shellbrook RCMP detachment. The police did not say if they had any suspects in the alleged theft.

Police are looking for an RCMP patrol jacket that was stolen from a police cruiser at an event last weekend.

The theft happened when Shellbrook RCMP officers conducted a patrol at a demolition derby event in Parkside last Saturday, July 28.

Around 11:45 p.m. the Mounties were advised a person entered the RCMP vehicle in the parking lot. Police said only the jacket was taken from the vehicle.

Police said it’s important to have the jacket returned. Anyone wearing it could be in violation of the Criminal Code for imitating a peace officer.

Anyone with information on the jacket’s whereabouts or the circumstances its theft was asked to contact Shellbrook RCMP or any local police or RCMP detachment. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers.
