Ottawa Fury beat AS Blainville to advance to Canadian Championship semifinal
Ottawa Fury FC has earned itself a meeting with Toronto FC.
Carl Haworth scored in the 21st minute as Ottawa beat AS Blainville 1-0 on Wednesday to advance to the Canadian Championship semifinal where it will face the reigning MLS champions.
The United Soccer League’s Fury opened the two-legged set with a 1-0 road win over the Quebec league champions in Laval, Que., on June 20 to take the series by aggregate 2-0.
Haworth, Ottawa’s captain and longest serving player, got to a loose ball in the box off a broken play and blasted it past the ‘keeper before running to the corner and using the flag to pat the sweat from his forehead in celebration.
