The Miami Marlins signed third-round draft pick and Canadian outfielder Tristan Pompey on Tuesday.

Miami selected the Mississauga, Ont., native 89th overall out of the University of Kentucky in the MLB draft earlier this month.

He signed for US$645,000 — slightly above the $642,600 value allotted to the pick.

Pompey, the 21-year-old brother of Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Pompey, batted .335 with a team-best .448 on-base percentage for the Wildcats in 2018. The six-foot-four switch hitter had seven homers, 39 runs batted in and 10 stolen bases in 13 attempts.
