Ovechkin, Holtby, Stanley Cup make appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’

Alex Ovechkin and Braden Holtby made Jimmy Fallon part of their Stanley Cup celebration by hoisting the talk show host in the air and letting him take a drink out of the trophy.

The two Washington Capitals stars appeared on The Tonight Show Monday night with the Stanley Cup, which they won for the first time in franchise history last week by beating the Vegas Golden Knights in five games.

The segment started with Fallon briefly interviewing both Ovechkin and Holtby on the set couch. The three then moved to the stage area where they — along with Triple Crown winning jockey Mike Smith — drank out of the Cup with paper straws.

Ovechkin and Holtby then lifted Fallon in the air and held him upside down over the Cup so he could stick his head in the bowl and drink from it.

During the interview segment, Fallon held up the latest cover of Sports Illustrated, featuring Ovechkin and the Cup, and showed it to the Capitals captain.

“Good-looking guy, why not?” Ovechkin said about being on the cover.

Fallon asked Holtby about his pre-game ritual, which involves him playing a guitar for his teammates.

“We got a guitar shipped to the rink, somehow, and I played it one day and we went on like a 20-game unbeaten streak so they let me keep playing… We do it more for good luck,” the goaltender joked.

The Capitals tweeted a photo earlier in the day of Ovechkin and Holtby travelling with the Stanley Cup, which was fastened securely by a seat belt, en route to The Tonight Show.

Ovechkin won the Conn Smythe Trophy for most valuable player on his team for his performance during the playoffs.

Holtby had an excellent record during the post-season with 2.16 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage.

Washington has been celebrating since winning the Cup — with most of the celebrations recorded and shared on social media. Fallon showed a clip of Ovechkin splashing in a public fountain, then doing situps in the water as fans cheered.

The Capitals took the Cup into the Washington Nationals’ clubhouse on Saturday.
