Toronto FC skipper says poor playing surface has ‘really handcuffed’ team
TORONTO — A new grass surface at BMO Field can’t come quick enough for Toronto FC captain Michael Bradley.
Poor field conditions have been part of a roller-coaster start to the season for the MLS champions, who have had to deal with a gruelling CONCACAF Champions League schedule and rash of injuries.
At 3-6-1, Toronto has 10 points after 10 games. It had 19 points at the same stage last season (5-1-4).
“There’s been a lot to deal with at the beginning of this season, between MLS games, Champions League travel, crazy conditions,” Bradley said after Friday night’s 2-1 win over Orlando City SC. “The field here has really hurt us, there’s no two ways about it. That’s not an excuse but that’s the reality.
