Veteran player Reni Maitua moves into Toronto Wolfpack front office
TORONTO — Former Australian and Samoan international Reni Maitua, who came out of retirement in late February to join the Toronto Wolfpack, is moving into the front office in the role of player welfare manager.
The transatlantic rugby league team says the 35-year-old Maitua will support Wolfpack players “in overcoming any challenges both in and away from being a professional sportsman.” He will also serve as a team ambassador and serve as a liaison between the club and rugby league in both hemispheres.
With the Wolfpack playing out of both Canada and England, players face unique challenges.
“Moving forward I have the privilege of being able to help create a culture and brand that represents Toronto and Canada as a whole as well as supporting our players and staff through any life experiences, both good and bad, on and off the field,” Maitua said in a statement.
