The 2018 PA Sports Hall of Fame inductees honoured

The 2018 inductee class of the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame were celebrated on Saturday at the Ches Leach Lounge. There were a ton of inductees as three groups were inducted, the Prince Albert Astros teams from 1999-2001, the off-ice officials and the Prince Albert Minor Football Association.

Here is the full list of the Inductees and their accomplishments.

1999-2001 Prince Albert Aallcan Astros- team

The Astros midget boys team from 1999-2001 put together a nice little dynasty. They won the provincials all three of those years. In 2000, they earned bronze at nationals and hosted the 2001 Canadian championships, winning silver.

In 2001, five Astros wore the maple leaf at World Championships in Sydney, Australia, returning with a bronze medal.

Andrew Taszlikowicz- athlete, wrestling

It only took Taszlikowicz two years of honing his craft of wrestling before he became a national national.

Taszlikowicz became the 1970 Canadian champion in the 132-pound division. He won the provincial, western championships that year. He also qualified for the World Championships in 1970-71. In 1974, Taszlikowicz won the 1974 Armand Bernard Trophy of the Year for Most Outstanding Wrestler. He’s given back to wrestling in Prince Albert as a coach for over 10 years, being named the coach of the year in the 1989-90 year.

Manny Primeau- athlete, baseball/fastball/bowling

Even before this year’s induction, Primeau was already inducted into three different sports halls, the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (2006) and the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame (1999) as well as his hometown of Prince Albert (in 1990).

Among his wide list of accomplishment are being the All-Star second baseball for the North Battleford Beavers, who won the Northern Saskatchewan Baseball League regular season and playoff titles in 1968, and won the league in 1970.

He also won the provincial senior men’s title with the Prince Albert Boh’s in 1969 and represented P.A. in Westerns. In Native Fastball, Primeau went to the Canadian Championships six times from 1978-85 and was named as the Tournament MVP in 1983.

Dale McFee- athlete and builder, hockey and soccer

McFee joined the Prince Albert Raiders in their inaugural WHL season in 1982 and played until 1986. He was a part of the 1985 Memorial Cup winning Raiders squad and played 269 games for the Raiders with 118 goals, 152 assists for 270 points and 517 penalty minutes. McFee also did a lot to help the local hockey scene long after his playing days were done, being a Raiders board member since 2004, was the team’s president from 2007-2016 and the teams vice president in 2017. He also coaches in the midget AAA and bantam AA levels.

McFee also coached the Prince Albert Celtics soccer program, coaching his three daughters Jayde, Kacey and Meghan. The Celtic were the province’s representatives and the nationals in 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2016.

Off Ice Officials- Meritorious service

The Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame are inducting seven volunteers that have helped with a ton of work as off-ice officials during hockey games for the Prince Albert Raiders, Prince Albert Mintos and Prince Albert Northern Bears to name a few.

Gerry Bergen, Elder Bergen, Lloyd McBeath, Jean Mauvieux, Wayne Soles, Rick Willie and Ron Wildey are all being included into the hall from all their work.

George Sinclair- Meritorious service, hockey and fastball

Sinclair has been involved with sports in Prince Albert since 17 when he started coaching fastball with the CKBI team of nine and 10-year-olds. Sinclair further coached hockey and baseball, taking both the Prince Albert Junior Knights and later the South Hill Midgets to provincial championships.

He later umpired fastball and slo-pitch at the age of 21 and continued to do so for 50 years, until he was 70. He umpired various high-level tournaments. He was a goal judge at the Prince Albert Raiders first home game at the then Comuniplex in 1971, into the WHL and worked until his passing in 2017.

Wayne Roznowsky- Meritorious service

Roznowsky’s impact is all over the Prince Albert sports scene. He chaired the Prince Albert Special Olympics in 2005-06 and on their board from 2002-06. He was also on the Prince Albert sports council from 1984-2002. He also spent time on the executive boards at the High Noon Optimist Centre, the Prince Albert Aerials Gymnastics Club and the Women’s Softball League. He was also the chair of the Saskatchewan Games Council in 2004-05, and director of the Saskatchewan Special Olympics Society in 2002.

Prince Albert Minor Football Association- organization of the year

The Prince Albert Minor Football Association was formed in 2007 to run youth bantam and pee wee flag leagues, then quickly started to run spring tackle football camps.

Back then, the organization didn’t have a practice or storage facility, but the PAFMA has grown considerably since. Players come in from surrounding areas like Shellbrook, Meath Park, Birch Hills, Kinistino, St. Louis, Cudworth, Carrot River, Tisdale and Wakaw to participate in the organization’s teams, camps and events.
