UPDATE: P.A. woman makes it to finals in international modelling competition

UPDATE: Prince Albert’s Sophie Stanowich is now a finalist in Maxim’s Finest Australia modelling competition. 

“It feels pretty surreal to be in the top 10!! I have to shake my head sometimes thinking that this competition started out with 1,000 girls and to be in that one per cent of girls that made it, being from a small town, it’s pretty crazy,” Stanowich told paNOW. 

If Stanowich receives the most online votes, she will win $10,000 and get her own photo spread in Maxim magazine. Stanowich was eligible for the contest as she has dual Canadian-Australian citizenship. Her family moved to Canada when she was only two years old and they have made numerous trips back and forth between the two countries over the years.  

“I’ve always believed in myself and know that I won’t settle until I’m where I want to be in life, and that’s living out my dream daily! I can just feel that it’s going to happen for me one day I envision it every day and it’s the most exciting thing ever,” she said.

Stanowich said she deserves to win because she has worked very hard for this competition. The final round of voting goes to Wednesday, May 2. People can vote once per day or can submit multiple votes by donating money. All the proceeds go to the Movember foundation, which helps address some of the biggest health issues faced by men including prostate and testicular cancer.

A Prince Albert woman has moved to one step closer to fulfilling her personal dream of becoming an actress and model.

Sophie Stanowich, 24, advanced to the fifth round in Maxim’s Finest Australia modelling competition. The grand prize is an opportunity to be featured in Maxim magazine and win $10,000.

Stanowich was eligible for the contest as she has dual Canadian-Australian citizenship. Her family moved to Canada when she was only two years old and they have made numerous trips back and forth between the two countries over the years. Stanowich said she always wanted to enter a contest like this.

“It’s always been like a dream of mine to be an actress and a model but I was always kind of shy of putting myself out there but now that I’m older I think my self-confidence has grown,” she said.

Stanowich is in the Chartreuse group, along with three other women. The woman in the group who receives the most online votes by April 11, will advance to the final list of 50. People can vote once per day or can submit multiple votes by donating money. All the proceeds go to the Movember foundation, which helps address some of the biggest health issues faced by men including prostate and testicular cancer.

“I would cry if I won, it would just be amazing and the exposure would be great to get my career going,” Stanowich said.

Stanowich currently works at Nutter’s Bulk and Natural Foods in Prince Albert. She graduated from Meath Park School but also attended Carlton and is known within Prince Albert’s dance community.
