James Smith Cree Nation re-elects Chief

Election results are in from the James Smith Cree Nation.
Okimaw, or chief Wally Burns was re-elected and retains the Cree Nation’s top spot.
Three new faces join council including Kendra McKay, Deborah Mclean and Tanya Moostoos elected as Vice Okimaw. Gerald McKay was re-elected as a headsman in the Cree Nation.
The community’s election act was recently changed according to Burns, adding an additional year to chief and councils’ term length. The James Smith Cree Nation’s Okimaw, headwomen and headman will sit for a term of three years and two months.
