Masonic Memory Box Program

Oct 4, 2017 | 10:14 AM

The members of Kinistino Masonic Lodge #1 in Prince Albert would like to introduce to you  and provide an overview of the Masonic Memory Box Program – what it is and what it brings to the community.

Masonic Lodges in Saskatchewan communities are not service clubs.  The principles of Freemasonry – Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth represent the core of our membership’s cherished values.   Freemasons strive to demonstrate these values as members of our community in many ways.

The Memory Box Program is one way that allows our members to contribute to our community in a very special way – a way that benefits many.  Not only does the program serve as an instrument of healing for those who are grieving as a result of losing a child, but also a measure of support to the nurses and staff on the front line.

The Memory Boxes are hand constructed by local Masons as an expression of love and concern for the families.   The Memory Boxes are given to parents who have experienced the devastating loss of an infant or child in the Victoria Hospital. The purpose of the box is to hold mementos of the baby such as a lock of hair, bracelets, photos, knitted booties and ID cards.

A Fundraising dinner will be held to assist with non-profit support of this program. In addition to a terrific meal, nurses and staff from the Health facilities are invited to share and reflect on their experiences as facilitators of the Memory Box Program. Additionally, we sometimes hear touching and emotional stories from recipients of a Memory Box.

Freemasonry has been an integral part of our community since 1879.  As Masons we strive to develop an understanding that as men we build one another up, work at being good family leaders and strengthen our relationship with God, our Lodge and our community.

As masons in Saskatchewan, we hold this program very close to our hearts. You won’t find a lot of pomp and circumstance surrounding the program due to its sensitive nature. What you will find is a program that is embraced and driven by each of our members, and that of the other Lodges within our great fraternity.  After all, our collective purpose is to serve our community in a meaningful way.
