The Common Ground Project Partners with Tapestrama

Sep 28, 2017 | 12:10 PM

Tapestrama, hosted by the Prince Albert Multicultural Council, is one of the biggest events in Prince Albert’s cultural year.

To be held Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1 – there is plenty to see, do and learn at this event

This year, The Common Ground Project is adding two events to the Tapestrama fun.

In a project called Culture not Costume, Common Ground has speakers who will make presentations on cultural attire both days. Saturday, learn about the Filipino Culture at 1:25 and about the German Cultural wear at 2:45. Sunday there will be an educational discussion on First Nations Regalia at 1:45 and about the Metis Sash, followed by a Sash Dance starting at 3:45.

Talking Tables will be happening on both days as well, located at the French Society’s bistro at the entrance the event.

This event is a hybrid of speed dating and the human library.

Saturday’s event will be at the bistro area at 1:00 and is open to the public. There are six spaces available.

We will have six First Nations/Metis people paired off with six clients from the YWCA Settlement Services to discuss a variety of subjects common to the human condition. Each pairing will have five minutes to discuss a subject like, “what did you like to do as a kid?” to discuss for five minutes before switching to talk to someone else about another subject.
