Community mourns avid outdoorsman

As the community comes to terms with the loss of a young Prince Albert man who was killed in a hunting incident, those who knew Jordan Darchuk, 23, are remembering him for the things he loved.

“Jordan was an avid outdoorsman and really did enjoy hunting and that’s what he was doing that day. It is unfortunate what happened,” Darryl Minter said.

Minter is a member of Sasktip; a nonprofit organization that pays rewards to those who turn in poachers.

“In lieu of flowers, the Darchuk family has asked that donations be made in Jordan’s memory to Sasktip,” Minter said.

“He enjoyed all recreational outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, boating, quading and spending time at the family cabin. He was always making sure that the people around him were happy, safe, and prosperous,” Darchuk’s obituary said.

On Sept 16, Nipawin RCMP were called to a complaint of an injured man in a rural field near Weirdale. An investigation revealed Darchuk and another 22-year-old man from Prince Albert, were hunting in the same area at the same time, but did not know each other. Darchuk was found deceased with an apparent gunshot wound. The incident was reported to police by the other hunter who remained at the scene.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday at the Art Hauser Centre.
