P.A. Chamber of Commerce gets new chair

The Prince Albert Chamber of Commerce’s new board chair said she’s excited to bring a new take to an historic institution.

She’s Meghan Mayer who was appointed during Thursday’s annual general meeting. 

At 34 years of age, she said it was important to bring new ideas to the table and is delighted to collaborate with more senior members. 

“When you bring in younger entrepreneurs mixed with people who’ve been in business for a long time, you have fresh ideas but you also have the wisdom behind it to lead both forward,” she said.

Mayer said she’s passionate about P.A. and local business. She owns Salon 6 with her husband and also runs Plaza 88 event centre.

Asked about any challenges facing the chamber, Mayer said she wanted to work on Prince Albert’s, maybe, negative reputation.

“Prince Albert really is an amazing place to do business,” she said. “It’s an amazing place to network with different people. The business group here are an amazing group to work with.” She added the chamber has the tools to help others. “The chamber has many different avenues that help businesses in so many ways, whether it’s with taxes, city politics or even provincial politics. There are so many different resources.”

Mayer will serve a one-year term as chair. She was on the board as a director for the past five years. 

The formal induction of Mayer and the new board happens during a gala event Oct. 12 featuring a keynote address by Donald Cooper, a Canadian business icon and the man behind Cooper Canada.
