Darren Schock revealed as the ‘Gus’ behind Gus’s Automotive

“Who is Gus?” You may have seen that question along with a picture of a man peering over the top of a brake disk on the back of a city transit bus. The transit ad for Gus’s Automotive, which ran over the past year, was inspired by customers asking that one question – “Who, is Gus?”

The guy behind that brake disk is Darren Schock, the current owner of Gus’s Automotive. He explained that even though he has worked at the business for 27 years, the business has been around since the 70’s. The original owner was named Gus and the name stuck.

Darren and his wife Bev have owned Gus’s Automotive since 2004. They grew up in the village of Canwood and bring those small-town values to work everyday. They deeply believe in the customer-first values the business has always strived to deliver.

Another of their core values is anchored in the belief that preventative vehicle maintenance is going to save money in the long run.  If you put off regular maintenance, ignore a problem hoping it will just go away you could be in for nasty surprises when you run into an unexpected breakdown and a hefty repair bill. To make life easier for their clients, Gus’s offers a shuttle service and loaner car, and gets to work on vehicles right away.  “We try to get you in and out as quickly as possible,” Darren states, “and our policy is not to replace anything until we talk to the customer so they’re in charge of their money.”
