Celebrate Canada 150! The Friends of Batoche National Historic Site are pleased to announce the coming together of two unique events into one fun packed day for the whole family. The Louis Riel Relay & Kidfest will take place on Saturday, July 8. Unique twists on a classic Saskatoon event that you won’t want to miss.  Sign up for the Saskatoon berry pie eating contest, line up for archery practice and try canoeing.  The day’s highlights are the Louis riel Relays and Kidfest activities, while live entertainment and great food round out the festivities.  Choose from competitive, recreational or kids adventure relays, which include canoeing, horseback riding, pack running, biking and running.  Costumes are welcome!  Register your team today!  www.louisrielrelaydays.com

Journée du patrimoines and Taste of Métis Culture Craft Show – Batoche NHS welcomes the 12th edition of Journée du Patrimoine – Heritage Days in 2017! Saturday, September 30. This bilingual celebration of French culture and tradition invites you and your family out for a day of interesting and interactive family activities, great food and workshops all combined with the Métis culture craft show.

”exploring Batoche is a family event”

Batoche National Historic Site is a fascinating place to bring your children for family-fun experiences and incredible stories to discover.

In 1885, Gabriel Dumont and Louis Riel led the Métis in the resistance against the federal government in a battle that changed the development of Western Canada.  Trenches, rifle pits and the troop’s camp tell the story of that battle.  Bullet holes in the rectory and the graves of Dumont and others testify to the struggle for land and identity.

Do your kids like to Xplore? Parks Canada Xplorers is for them!  They will have FUN doing activities and collecting COOL souvenirs at Batoche National Historic Site and other Parks Canada sites in Saskatchewan. Free with Entry.

Geocaching Challenge – Discover the secrets of Batoche and earn your souvenir Batoche geocoin in this geocaching program for all ages.  GPS units included in program fee.  Available July 1 – October 6, 2017.

Picnics. Hiking and Canoeing. Bring your hiking shoes, binoculars or canoes (or try a new canoe rental!) and explore the amazing views, picnic areas and trails along the South Saskatchewan River.

Food Concession – Taste traditional food and quench your thirst during your fun-filled day at Batoche. Picnic areas available.

Batoche is open from May 22 to June 30, Monday to Friday and 7 days a week from July 1 to September 4, 2017.  They will also be open Monday to Friday from September 5 to October 6.  Hours of operation are 9:00am-5:00pm. In 2017, to celebrate Canada 150, all Parks Canada places including Batoche National Historic Site will have free admission. Fees for enhanced services may apply, call the site for details.
