Former Yorkton high school principal accused of professional misconduct

A former principal at a high school in Yorkton will face a disciplinary hearing based on allegations revolving around falsifying a student’s record, along with making sexist and offensive comments to a student, parent and teachers.

The Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board(SPTRB) has a hearing scheduled for Trent Senger, who’s charged with six counts of professional misconduct between Sept. 1, 2012 and Nov. 1, 2015.

The Christ the Teacher Catholic Schools division confirmed a Trent Senger had resigned as principal at Sacred Heart High School in November 2015 and that a new principal was taking over.

He’s accused of directing staff to access the Ministry of Education’s Student Data System to falsify a student’s transcripts and give the student a passing mark for a class they weren’t registered for, in order to allow the student to meet graduation requirements.

Senger is also said to have made sexist, offensive, profane and belittling comments either to colleagues or about colleagues including other teachers. Those comments were described as humiliating, hurtful and intimidating.

Another charge outlines while he was the MC of an athletics awards banquet he allegedly remarked to a student “I’ll talk slower so [student] can understand”. At the same banquet, he was said to have made hurtful comments to a parent who was employed in the waste management collection industry.

The last two charges allege he failed to take the necessary steps to verify students would be eligible to graduate and that he held insufficient fire drills.

None of these allegations have been proven in a hearing.

Senger will appear before a disciplinary committee in Regina on March 24, 2017.
