Beardy’s takes advantage of shorthanded Mintos

The Beardy’s Blackhawks took full advantage of a shorthanded Prince Albert Mintos side in a 5-4 victory Tuesday night at the Art Hauser Centre.

Blackhawks forward Tian Rask had three goals and an assist in the Blackhawks’ win. Jared Hamm had a goal and two assists.

Logan Barlage had a monster game with two goals and two assists for the Mintos. The 15-year-old rookie continues to lead the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League with 26 goals in 34 games.  Mintos call up Caleb Grandfield also had two goals.

Before the game, the Mintos were already scratching their top scoring defenceman in Braden Schneider and their second highest scoring forward in Kyrell Sopotyk, both of whom were suspended. Schneider served his second of a four-game suspension for having three major penalties in a season. Sopotyk sat Tuesday for a checking from behind major penalty in a 4-0 win against the Blackhawks on Saturday.

Not only that, but the Mintos were also missing goaltender Cale Elder and forward Mitchell Girolami to injuries, then lost defencemen Alex Moar and Carsen Robertson to injuries during the game. The Mintos ended the game with three regular defenceman and forward Kyle Gray filling in on the backend.

Prince Albert’s Carsen Schewaga made his Midget AAA debut in goal for the Mintos, making 31 saves.

The Mintos are on the road in Swift Current this weekend, taking on the Legionnaires on Friday and Saturday. Their next home game is on Tuesday against the Saskatoon Blazers.
