P.A. woman brings home silver medal

Jan 16, 2017 | 4:00 PM

Prince Albert’s Brooke Hobson, who has always worn her Canadian pride on her sleeve, now wears it around her neck too.

She returned home to Saskatchewan with a silver medal today, following Team Canada’s second place finish at the International Ice Hockey Federation’s U18 Women’s World Championship in the Czech Republic.

She described her experience at the tournament as one she will never forget.

“Playing against the best players in every country definitely made me better as a player,” she said.

Hobson’s biggest game was Team Canada’s semi-final win over Sweden. She opened the scoring for her team with a blue line slap shot goal in the first period.

“I was definitely excited,” she said. “All the girls were pretty excited having it been my first one, and so definitely a lot of smiles on the bench there.”

She went on to add two more assists during that game.

Hobson arrived home in Saskatoon late Monday morning, almost a day later than she expected.

After landing in Toronto Sunday from Prague, she was informed her luggage was missing. Inside her suitcase was her silver medal, her jersey and the puck she scored the goal with.

“It was kind of a scare there. I had to find a hotel room for myself and hope it showed up [Monday],” she said.

Hobson’s hockey bag and suitcase thankfully turned up the next morning, and she boarded a plane for Saskatoon.

Hobson is not eligible to play for the U18 squad anymore, and is now setting her sights on making the U22 development team.
