Protesters to gather before accused murderer’s court appearance

Aug 15, 2016 | 7:00 PM

Plans for a gathering are in the works to coincide with an accused murderer’s court appearance this week.

Protesters say they will be at the North Battleford Provincial Court on Thursday to support shooting victim Colten Boushie and his family.

Boushie was shot and killed Aug. 9, after driving onto a farm property near Biggar with four friends. The other people in the car said they had a flat tire and were looking for help.

Gerald Stanley, 54, was charged with second-degree murder and appeared in court Aug. 11. He was remanded until Thursday, Aug. 18.

The protest is planned to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, an hour before Stanley’s scheduled appearance.

The description of the event on Facebook said the protest is to show respect and support for Boushie and his family.

One post in the event recommends a way for people to show support if they can’t make it.

Michelle Good posted a suggestion for people who can’t go to North Battleford for the gathering to stand with a “Justice for Colten” sign somewhere in public.
