UDPATE: Inmate dies at Sask. Pen

UPDATE: Correctional Service Canada said a deceased Sask. Pen inmate was found “in a condition other than normal” in his cell the morning of July 19.

Joseph Vincent Manitopyes, 31, was pronounced deceased at Victoria Hospital at roughly 10:35 p.m., Darcy Begrand with the Correctional Service of Canada said.

He said he couldn’t comment on the specifics of how Manitopyes was found and if the death was considered suspicious.

“The coroner will be the one to determine the cause of death,” he said.

Manitopyes was serving a five year, seven month sentence for various charges, including attempted robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
