Operation Christmas Child a success with almost 1100 boxes

Operation Christmas Child collected nearly 1100 boxes this year for children in Latin America and Ukraine.

Lyle Karasiuk, director of public affairs for Parkland Ambulance, was thrilled with the number.

“We certainly appreciate all of the community support,” he said. “Everyone from those who made just one or two boxes, or churches, community groups, and the staff from a local workplace who all pitched in and made 50 or 60 boxes.”

This was the sixth year Prince Albert’s Parkland Ambulance has been a collection and distribution centre for the project.

“It’s a great community project where we as a community can get together and support someone in need.”

Though collection week is over, Karasiuk said they were still receiving some boxes. He encouraged people to get their boxes in before it’s too late.

This year’s number was shy of last years, when they collected 1200 boxes. However, that didn’t dampen Karasiuk’s spirit.

“At the end of the day if we ended up with 50 boxes we would be very pleased because that’s 50 people who contributed to the cause.”
