Phase 2 of ward meetings off to a good start

Nov 5, 2015 | 5:48 AM

Approximately 20 residents from Ward 1 met at the Parkland Community Hall on Wednesday evening for the first neighbourhood planning meeting of phase two.

“I think we got about the right number. I expected a bit more, but I think this is a good manageable number,” city planning and development director John Guenther said.

Phase one of the neighbourhood meetings took place in September and October. The main objective of those meetings was to allow residents to communicate their concerns with the city and to begin a contact list.

Phase two of the meetings will help cement the contact lists, gage the wards involvement, and to prioritize the issues that were raised in phase one.

“It’s sorting through the themes, checking to see if we got the data right, and then making sure we can carry on with some momentum,” Guenther said. “Seeing what those resources look like. The passion … if the passion looks like it’s recognizable and sustainable its making sure it’s maintained and we can help it along.”

The issues brought forward in phase one have been put into a list of themes that were echoed by all wards.

“We’re checking with each group and talking about some strategies moving forward,” Guenther said.

Phase three of the meetings will be held in the New Year where city workers will be in attendance to assist in drafting plans and a timetables for possible neighbourhood projects.
