Elections Canada says no one was left out

Oct 23, 2015 | 10:09 AM

Elections Canada is attempting to settle some troubled waters.

There had been reports that several reserves in Northern Saskatchewan ran out of ballots Monday night.

A spokesperson for Elections Canada informed paNOW on Friday that no electors were denied the opportunity to vote.

In some communities, where turnout was exceptionally high compared to the last election, the returning officer had to re-allocate ballots from one polling division to another within the same electoral district.

The Chief Electoral Officer adapted the Canada Elections Act to allow the photocopying of ballots.

According to an email from an Elections Canada spokesperson, Elections Canada was not aware of any situation where the vote had to be interrupted to obtain additional ballots.

The Liberal Party indicated earlier this week they would consider asking for a recount in the riding of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.

NDP candidate Georgina Jolibois defeated Liberal candidate Lawrence Joseph by a mere 70 votes.
