Glover’s goal gouges the Ice with last second heroics
Raider rookie goalie Ian Scott has reached another milestone in just his 6th appearance as a Prince Albert Raider.
The 16-year-old from Calgary recorded his first WHL shutout showing the poise of a veteran makeing 33 saves providing the foundation for a dramatic 1-0 win over the Kootenay Ice.
Scott made 13 of his saves in the pivotal second period when the Ice had four of their six power play advantages, continually finding the puck through traffic and staying calm during several goal mouth scrambles.
Scoring chances were at a premium through the first 20 minutes, but the pace picked up as the game wore on with two tired teams who had travelled until about 3am Saturday, appeared to get their skating legs. The Raiders best scoring cames came on a Luke Coleman first period wrap around, Matteo Gennaro’s second period deflection off the post in the second period and Reid Gardiner’s shorthanded breakaway late in the middle frame. The Raiders killed off a late third period puck over the glass delay of game penalty and just when it looked the game was headed for overtime, Austin Glover stole the puck behind the Kootenay net, worked his way out front and stuffed the puck under Ice overage goalie Wyatt Hofflin with 15.2 seconds remaining in regulation. The unassisted goal was Glover’s 6th of the season.
