Missing Hudson Bay man found dead

A Hudson Bay man who was missing for two weeks has been found dead.

John Maxwell Purcell, 87, was last seen leaving his home in the morning of Sept. 25.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, Hudson Bay RCMP, along with members of Purcell’s family, located his missing truck in the Red Deer River about 8 km southeast of Hudson Bay.

Family and RCMP members were in a helicopter searching for Purcell and his vehicle at the time.

His truck was found below a drop off by the river surrounded by trees. Inside the vehicle, Purcell’s body was found. Investigators said they do not believe his death is suspicious.

Purcell’s family has been notified and RCMP request that the public respect their privacy during this difficult time.

The RCMP said they are grateful for the help they received throughout the search, including sharing information extensively on social media.
