Golf tournament is a hole in one for community groups

The City of Prince Albert gave away over $19,000 to community groups Friday morning on behalf of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA).

After the annual SUMA golf tournament in July $19,565.86 was left over in sponsorship funds.

Mayor Greg Dionne said it was a rare opportunity to give away funds that did not come from tax dollars.

“This was probably one of the most successful tournaments that SUMA has ever put on,” said Dionne, “both with the turn out, the weather, the money that was raised.”

Dionne and city councilor Don Cody presented a $3,200 cheque to each of the following community groups:

  • Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club
  • East End Community Club
  • Parkland Hall
  • The Cook Municipal Junior Golf Program

Mayor Dionne also announced fundraising began in order to put a washroom into the third floor of the Alfred Jenkins Field House. The goal for that project is $17,000. Dionne presented a cheque for $3,503.46 to that project, also raised through the SUMA golf tournament.

As part of the Fire Evacuees Matching Gift Campaign a contribution of $3,262.40 was matched by Potash Corp. and Kitsaki Management in July for food hampers for fire evacuees.
