A memorial monument for residential schools was reinstalled on the Kiskinwuhumatowin Reserve in downtown La Ronge.

The monument, which is located at the site of former residential schools, was originally installed last year but after damages to it, it was repaired and reinstalled.

“It’s to honour all the residential school students, survivors and their families. To honour the resiliency of our people and that we still have our language, still have our culture,” said Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Tammy Cook-Searson.

The memorial was originally unveiled last year at the Woodland Cree Gathering Celebration. The memorial took months of planning and fundraising which was done by residential school support workers.
