Second lawyer steps down from representing Leslie Black

Aug 11, 2015 | 11:36 AM

Leslie Black, the man who pleaded guilty to assaulting and setting a woman on fire, will be seeking new counsel once again.

Black appeared in court today as lawyer Adam Masiowski withdrew from the case.

During Black’s last appearance in court, Masiowski brought forth to the judge that Black was denying some statement of facts and he was considering withdrawing from the case if a resolution could not be reached.

In a scrum outside of the courtroom on Tuesday, Masiowski told reporters that legal aid will be looking into finding a private lawyer for the case. He explained that there has been a breakdown of the relationship between the legal aid office and Black.

This is not the first time Black has been without a lawyer. In January legal aid lawyer Terra Lennox-Zepp also withdrew from the case.

This will further delay sentencing for the case.

On April 28, Black pleaded guilty to attempted murder in connection to the assault of Marlene Bird.

Marlene Bird was attacked last summer which resulted in both of her legs being amputated and damage to her eyesight. She is still awaiting eye surgery.

The case has been adjourned until August 25.
