More evacuees given the go-ahead to return home Monday

More good news is to come for northern fire evacuees.

Another group of evacuees will be allowed to head home this week, according to officials.

Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) Chief Tammy Cook-Searson released the latest information Saturday eveneing.

She said health officials have advised that everyone on the health priority list from LLRIB, the town of La Ronge, the village of Air Ronge, Sucker River, Grandmother’s Bay and Stanley Mission are able to return home Monday July 20. 

This list includes those individuals with health conditions or at-risk for breathing problems, children under 2 years of age and the elderly. Previously, this group was held off due to remaining smoke in the area.

According to Cook-Searson, transportation is being coordinated for everyone who requires a ride home. paNOW will release information on busing as it becomes available.

Currently, Hall Lake is still under a general evacuation order due to the Stowers Fire which was only 5 km from the community. Only essential service personnel are there.

This fire is currently the priority fire for Wild Fire Management, according to authorities.
