Transwest Air acquires fixed base operations in Buffalo Narrows

Saskatchewan’s largest operating airline just became larger.

Effective Aug. 1, Transwest Air will own the fixed base of operations in Buffalo Narrows.

The acquisition comes from Courtesy Air.

“We saw this as an opportunity to grow further in Northern Saskatchewan,” said Transwest Executive Vice-President Garrett Lawless.

“This was a good opportunity for us to acquire some infrastructure in a part of our province that we didn’t already have.”

This acquisition adds another location to the airline which already provides schedule flights and freight services to Saskatoon, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Stony Rapids, Fond Du Lac, Wollaston and Points North.

The location has a terminal, hanger, fueling area, and two apartment buildings for housing crews.

The fixed base will continue as normal providing charter flights, medical transportation, ground servicing and fueling.

Fueling will be operated by Snowbird Petroleum, a branch under the Transwest Group of Companies.

Lawless says they will work closely with the community to bring economic and employment opportunities for the local residents. Positions such as base manager, ground handlers, and fuel workers will be part of the initial hires.

“We’re proud to be the most present airline in Northern Saskatchewan. This just helps us grow this reputation with having the strongest presence in the Northern half of Saskatchewan.
