Luckily, a passerby saw someone in the pool area and immediately called police.When police arrived, they arrested five people on site including three adults and two youths. They’ve each been charged with break and enter and theft over $5,000.

“What did it accomplish? It’s just a useless use of time and energy,” said Dionne, who still hadn’t calmed down when contacted by paNOW Thursday night.

Dionne said the pool did open on time, thanks to the efforts of staff. He mentioned that none of the five people arrested were from Prince Albert. All were wearing evacuee bracelets.

“We’re going to put some extra patrols on, you know we’ve got 10 per cent more of our population living in our city so we have to beef things up, now we just realized it,” Dionne said.

He plans to meet with community leaders Friday morning.

In terms of recovering the costs, Dionne said the city will review its insurance policy. As for the five accused, he hinted that they will be watched closely.

“I’m going to instruct our staff to make sure the court system knows that we are not very happy,” said Dionne
