Four New Instruments to Consider – Bluegrass Camp

Jul 17, 2015 | 3:45 PM

Our music camp registration is in full swing with registrations rolling in every day. We even have some classes that have already sold out!

Every year it seems we have a ton of beginners who want to learn an instrument but don’t know what to take. It appears that these students often choose guitar because they are too unfamiliar with the other instruments or because the idea of wearing banjo finger picks scares them away.

Don’t be scared. We will let you in on a little secret. Banjo is easier than guitar, but looks harder…not to mention it ups your cool factor by a million degrees. (Being a banjo player, maybe I am just biased)

This year, why not head down to Long and McQuade, rent an instrument, and try out something new! To give you the little push you might need to pick up one of these instruments, we are offering you a discounted rate for the following beginner classes!

LEARNING TO ROLL WITH IT – BEGINNER BANJO WITH RANDY YOUNG
Randy has been playing for over 30 years and has the skills to get you playing banjo licks before you can say “who’s the coolest person in the room now!?”

ALL ABOUT THAT BASS – BASS SKILLS FOR THE UPRIGHT WITH BRITTANY KARLSON
Upright bass players are in high demand, they seem to be few and far between.
Some people say that the upright bass is too big and cumbersome, but we are here to say that size does matter! We are all about that bass, ’bout that bass, no treble!

RESONANT EFFECTS – RESOPHONIC GUITAR (DOBRO) WITH ANDREW SNEDDON
Dobro is tuned to an open tuning, which makes it one of the easiest instruments to navigate! Add that beautiful and haunting sound to any group with your new dobro skills! You will be the envy of all your musician friends.

CHOPS N’ TRILLS – BEGINNER MANDOLIN WITH MATT WITLER
If you saw the Lonely Heartstring Band play when they were here this spring, then you know how amazing this guy is. Mandolin is the pocket sized instrument with a loud and impressive sound. The perfect travel instrument, campfire instrument and canoeing instrument, due to it’s size.

So this year consider something new! Even if you already play an instrument, this is the perfect opportunity to expand your music knowledge.
Head on over to our registration page to sign up today and get that discount for being so brave!
