Charity party crashed by thieves

Jul 17, 2015 | 7:16 AM

Organizers of this month’s Party in the Parking Lot, a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy, had a bit of wind taken out of their sails this week.

On Wednesday night, someone took a cash box from inside a parked vehicle.  The cashbox contained money raised for the special charity event.

Coordinator Chelsea Reid said she is feeling very frustrated.

“Especially since it’s for a charity, it’s for a good cause and they’re just stealing from people who need it,” she said.

The cash box also contained the bracelets the group was selling as admission tickets.

“So now we have to change the format for the tickets as well because there are 50 bracelets out there that have not been paid for,” she said.

Reid said she does not expect to recover the lost money.

The event will go ahead as planned on July 25 in the Price Breakers parking lot on South Industrial Drive.

The event runs from 7p.m. to 11p.m.
