SK Government Fire Update – July 16 – Important Evacuee Information
127 active wildfires currently. Rain has helped in some areas and the weather outlook for the next few days is positive with more rain expected. That allows crews to move from a defensive approach to begin working offensively, pushing fires further away from communities.
La Ronge, Air Ronge, Lac La Ronge Indian Band and surrounding communities are still under a direct fire threat.
Threat assessments are determined by the local area fire managers and considers the chance of fire jumping fire guards, the number and location of hot spots, fire risk to community infrastructure and more.
The army and ground crews with heavy helicopter support are monitoring hot spots and securing fire perimeters in the La Ronge area today. Work continues to protect the Stanley Mission Church from the Cog fire. Multiple ground crews, aircraft and heavy equipment continue to reduce threats from the Philion fire along Weyakwin River.
